Global Spine Care Initiative Receives Grant Funding
Last week, the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR), the University of Manitoba, the Canadian Chiropractic Research Foundation (CCRF), and the Canadian Chiropractic Association (CCA) announced funding for the next phase of the Global Spine Care Initiative (GSCI), a research project convened by World Spine Care.
The grant, which amounts to $195,000 over two years, will be used for a project in Pimicikamak (Cross Lake First Nation), Manitoba, Canada.
“What we are proposing in Pimicikamak is for the chiropractor to make the first contact, perform triage and provide primary care tailored to patient needs on a weekly basis in the community,” explains Dr. André Bussières, professor in the department of chiropractic at UQTR, who will lead phases 2 and 3 of the project. “If a patient requires a specialized consultation, it can be done virtually with medical specialists, and if necessary, the patient can be transferred to a Winnipeg hospital to receive needed health care.”
The Global Spine Care Initiative (GSCI) was created by World Spine Care to reduce the global burden of disability by bringing together leading healthcare providers, scientists, specialists, government agencies, and other stakeholders to transform the delivery of spine care and advance their vision of a world in which everyone has access to the highest quality spine care possible.
