Dr. Patricia Tavares appointed to World Spine Care (Canada) Board of Directors
World Spine Care (Canada) recently voted to appoint Patricia Tavares, BSc., DC., FCCOS(C) (Canada) as a member of the Board of Directors. She is currently the Clinical Coordinator for the World Spine Care clinic in Moca, Dominican Republic.
“We are delighted to have Dr. Tavares join the World Spine Care Canada Board of Directors,” said Dr. Jean Moss, CEO and President of the Board. “Pat brings with her an extensive background of private practice, teaching, research, philanthropic work, and contribution to the political and regulatory side of the chiropractic profession. She was instrumental in setting up and managing the World Spine Care Clinic in the Dominican Republic. She provides excellent input and brings an incredibly high level of energy to everything she does. We look forward to her contributions to the Board of Directors.”
Dr. Tavares said, “Being part of the Board allows me to connect the board to the activities that occur in our clinics, whilst being able to take part in decisions affecting World Spine Care Canada. I feel honoured to have been invited to join the board.”
Dr. Tavares graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) in Toronto, Canada in 1995, and attained an orthopedic fellowship designation in 2004. She started and ran a private practice for 14 years in Toronto’s west end. In 2012, she became a clinician at CMCC where she supervises interns during their clinical rotation. She participates in the CMCC Outreach Abroad Mission to the Dominican Republic where she supervises interns treating patients in need of spinal care.
Dr. Tavares is actively involved in research at CMCC and with the Global Spine Care Initiative, part of the research program of World Spine Care. She has previously sat on the Board of the College of Chiropractors of Ontario and the Board of the College of Chiropractic Orthopedists Canada and is currently a member of the Board of Directors for the Ontario Chiropractic Association.
“In the future we will hopefully see new volunteers join us in the DR post-COVID,” Dr. Tavares said. “We are also investigating possible partnerships with chiropractic schools where interns could work under clinical supervisors in our existing clinic. This could help promote sustainability if the programs are successful. It would allow the people of DR to have increased access to evidence-based spine care using the GSCI model of care and would provide a great learning opportunity for interns of chiropractic.”
